In order to combine a human's strength and will with a dragon's, there is a special bonding process that must occur. During this binding, the human and the dragon must be contained within a special field of power (a circle of salt determines the boundaries). After the bond has occurred, both dragon and human acquire the other's strengths. However, there is also a spiritual residue left from the binding process, and an image of the human's soul remains entrapped within the CIRCLE OF BINDING. Because dragons are so innately attuned to magickal energies, no GHOST is left behind. Thus if either die the bond is broken, but the greater tragedy is the human's to have. Since part of the human's soul was captured within the CIRCLE OF BINDING, the human is not allowed to complete his or her journey to the other realms .. instead he or she remains trapped as a phantom in the nether world.
